In this case you not wrong. Recent files is just a List of Files you have opened and remain as a shortcut to each file as long as you do't move to trash and empty or move to another directory. If you choose to delete the list Then it wipes out everything in the list and start gain with the new file saved after the time cleared. If you not one to delete or move files the recent list could be accurate for years. However, with most people you luck if the list doesn't get out of what in a couple of weeks. As far as I know, there is no way to delete an individual entry. Its all or nothing.
